I’ve really accelerated my goal to improve my knitting in the last few months. I feel now that I can tackle some more advanced ideas. I’ve also started to work my own designs and this is something I really want to progress further. I’m not that interested in following patterns—I’d like each piece I make to be unique!
Christmas is a great time to customise some presents for friends and family. Here are a couple of said gifts this year, made with much love (and only a bit of swearing) for lovely friends Bill and Helen.
Tartan triumph
I’m very attracted to stripes and plaid at the moment. I spent quite a lot of time researching how to knit a tartan pattern. After many experiments I designed this scarf—my first attempt, and hopefully the first of many tartan designs!
Chevron crush
The chevron stripe is also a relatively simple pattern that I’ve used a lot lately. Pencil cases, cushion covers and hats and scarves have all been given the chevron treatment. This scarf is made from Sublime DK cashmere/merino and is beautifully soft and stitch definition is wonderful. I had these colours in my stash and was looking for a project, so this is how my infinity scarf design ended up!
I’m very excited about what I can achieve in 2015 and will try harder to share results and patterns with you. I hope you have a creative new year too!
